What are the inclusions and exclusions of Cargo Protect?

Cargo Protect applies to:

  • Fire

  • Fault or neglect in navigation or management of ship

  • Accidents due to heavy weather or other dangers of the sea

  • Theft

  • Saving or attempts to save life or property at sea

  • Cargo damage caused by specific events

  • General average contributions

Cargo Protect does not apply to:

  • Commercial damages and financial losses incurred as a result of delays

  • Wrongful handling related to the shipper or inherent defects to the goods

  • Transport leg outside our Bill of Lading

  • Geopolitical events

  • Other losses or damage caused by specific events listed in the General Terms and Conditions of Cargo Protect (see full list here)

No, Cargo Protect is not insurance. It is a contractual guarantee undertaken by ESL that ensures quick and simple monetary compensation, should any harm befall your cargo.

Cargo Protect can be applied to container shipments of all comoddities.

You can opt in for Cargo Protect before completing your booking on our E-Sea platform, or speak to your local sales representative to let them know you’d like to add Cargo Protect to your booking.

Full compensation, up to the agreed compensation limit will generally be processed within 30 days.
